Welcome to November. If you are reading this, it means you survived Halloween and all the candy and goodies have made its way into a huge overwhelming mountain of sugar. If you are anything like me, you just want it to be gone. So, whether you do the Candy Fairy, Switch Witch or whatever to get your kids on board, here are four ways to get rid of it once you are in the clear to make it go away!
- Candy Buy Back: Find a location near you by entering your zip code at halloweencandybuyback.com and drop off you unwanted candy. Participating locations pay $1 per pound and send candy in care packages to troops overseas.
- Donating Candy to the Troops: There are several other organizations that don’t pay for the candy but are still worthy of your candy. Operation Gratitude has sent almost 2 million care packages to troops. Soldiers Angels, who traditionally works with local dental offices, will let you exchange candy for prizes and send the candy to troops, wounded heroes, and veterans.
- Ronald McDonald House: Look up your local Ronald McDonald House chapter and take your leftover candy to them. They will donate it to sick children and their families, who can always use a much-needed smile.
- Reverse Trick or Treat: Give you kids the chance to give back by packing up the unwanted candy and taking it to a senior center or homeless shelter. Giving back will not only relieve you of the extra candy, but allow your children to have a first-hand experience of helping others.
